My wife Karen and I have one daughter. We live on a fourth generation farm in Birch Cooley Township. I began representing District 2 as Renville County Commissioner in January of 2003. Prior to this, I served twelve years as a township supervisor, and a member on the Renville County Economic Development Commission in 2000. I served on the Minnesota Corn Growers Association for six years and had the privilege to be their state president in 1996. I also served three years on the National Corn Growers Board and was Chairman of the National Public Relations Committee in 1998. I was a charter board member of the Franklin Ambulance Association in 2000, on which I served until being elected Renville County Commissioner. I am a thirty-two year member of the Franklin Lion’s Club, a member of the Renville County Historical Society, and the Fairfax Depot Association.
My committee assignments for 2018 are as follows: PACT (Putting All Communities Together) for Families Collaborative (a Children’s Mental Health and Family Services Collaborative which serve children and families in five counties in west central Minnesota), Renville County Historical Society, Minnesota Valley Regional Rail Authority, Rural Minnesota Energy Board, Southwest Regional Solid Waste Commission, Redwood Renville Recycling and Solid Waste JP(RRRSW). I serve on the State Extension Committee, Agriculture Task Force Committee for our state association, as well as I represent Minnesota on the National Association of Counties Agriculture and Rural Affairs steering committee, and National Counties Association's Board of Directors.
