Renville County Landfill Update Effective today, October 30th, the landfill will be open to receive demo material and self hauler msw (garbage) on the following days: Monday, Tuesday, and Friday of each week.  The hours of operation will be 8:00 to 4:00 p.m.  This will remain in effect until further notice.

Landfill Update

The Renville County landfill is not currently accepting municipal solid waste (MSW), aka garbage, due to a needed equipment repair.  Collection of MSW is expected to resume Monday, December 4. 

The landfill is still accepting demolition waste (debris from building construction/renovation and roadwork).

TRAFFIC ALERT

Short detour required for road repair in Olivia on Highway 71

WILLMAR, Minn. – Motorists traveling in Olivia will encounter a short detour starting Sunday, October 15 at 12:00 pm as crews will be repairing the road near the railroad crossing at the intersection of Highway 212 and Highway 71 in Olivia.  Motorists will be detoured on Highway 212 west to Renville CR 1 north to Renville CR 11.  The road is expected to open October 23, 2017.

Highway 71 resurfacing work resumes August 21

WILLMAR, Minn. – The Highway 71 resurfacing project started Tuesday, August 8 with the milling of the road surface.  The milling portion of the project is now complete and paving operations will start August 21.  During this time (Aug. 8-21) road work ahead and uneven lane signs will remain in place. The road will remain open to traffic.

The Highway 71 project includes a micro-mill and overlay.  Motorists can expect short delays starting August 21 as traffic will be reduced to one lane during paving.  Duininck Inc. is the contractor on the project.

MnDOT asks motorists to slow down and pay attention while driving through work zones.  Motorists who speed through a work zone or who disobey work zone flaggers face a $300 fine.

CSAH 3 Minnesota River Bridge Closure During an underwater inspection of a bridge located on Renville CSAH 3 over the Minnesota River, just east of Franklin, severe erosion under one of the piers was detected.  Due to the severity of this problem, this bridge will remain closed until further notice.  Should you have any questions, please contact the Renville County Public Works Department at (320) 523-3759.

MnDOT News Release for Highway 7 and US 71

Highway 7 and US 71/roundabout projects start June 12

WILLMAR, Minn. – The Highway 7 and US 71/roundabout projects start Monday, June 12.  The Highway 7 project includes the resurfacing of Highway 7 from the intersection of US 71/Highway 7 to Clara City (16.4 miles).  Due to the extensive resurfacing work this project will require a detour.  There will be two stages to the detour.  The first will run June 12 to July 5.  The second will run July 5 to Sept.1. Construction of the roundabout at the intersection of Highway 7 and US 71 will also begin on June 12.  This project will be constructed under traffic.  US 71 will remain open.

Minnesota River Valley Recreation and Conservation Master Plan

The draft Minnesota River Valley Recreation and Conservation Master Plan is available for a 30-day public comment period. The Master Plan can be found at www.mnrivervalleymasterplan.org.  Comments about the plan can be sent to Comment@MNRiverValleyMasterPlan.org through June 8, 2017. Printed copies of the plan are available for loan at the Renville County Environmental Office in Olivia, the Redwood County Environmental Office in Redwood Falls, the Redwood Falls Public Library and the Lower Sioux Environmental office in Morton.

A public open house will also be held June 8th to receive written comments about the Master Plan. The open house will be held at the Redwood Falls Public Library community room from 4:30 p.m.to 7:30 p.m.

ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT WORKSHEET (EAW) - ZASKE (GRAVEL) MINE
Renville County is accepting comments on the Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) prepared for the expansion and operation of the Zaske nonmetallic mineral (gravel) mine as excavation will exceed 40 acres of land to a mean depth of 10 feet or more, which requires the need for a mandatory EAW based on Minnesota Rules 4410.4300, Subp. 12.B.  The mining site is located in Sections 23 and 24 of Sacred Heart (South) Township, Renville County, Minnesota.

A required 30-day comment period will run between February 20, 2017, and March 22, 2017.  Comments must be submitted during the review period and should be addressed to:

PUBLIC PRESENTATION

On April 12, 2016, based upon a recommendation of the Lake Allie ESSD Advisory Council, the Renville County Board of Commissioners approved a contract with ISG to prepare a Capital Improvement Plan for the Lake Allie ESSD Wastewater Treatment Facility.  The Capital Improvement Plan will provide anticipated expenditures for use in budgeting and informing the users of the system of the expected needs based upon the reasonable remaining life cycle of each component.  A public presentation of the Plan to the Renville County Board of Commissioners and Lake Allie ESSD Advisory Council will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, in Suite 313 of the Renville County Government Services Center, 105 South 5th Street, Olivia, Minnesota.  ISG will recap the work outlined in the Plan and field any questions from staff or the public.
