Patrol Deputies are tasked with enforcing criminal and traffic laws in Renville County. With a total land size of nearly 1,000 square miles, Renville County contains hundreds of miles of federal, state, county and township roadways. Our patrol deputies spend a great deal of time patrolling those roads. Further, Renville County has an award-winning traffic safety and enforcement program that strives to keep Renville County a safe place to travel. That program includes both public education as well as firm, fair and consistent traffic law enforcement.
In addition to general patrol activities, our patrol deputies also take reports of various crimes that are committed within the county. After the initial report is taken, patrol deputies investigate leads to solve open cases and make arrests accordingly.
Patrol deputies are usually the first to arrive at the scene of a call, both emergency and non-emergency.
Patrol deputies are trained in emergency medical services and, whenever possible, assist at ambulance calls and render aid to victims involved in car crashes and other traumatic circumstances. All of the Renville County patrol cars are equipped with a full compliment of emergency medical supplies and Automated External Defibrillators (AED's), which provide life-saving treatment for persons who suffer sudden cardiac arrest. The Renville County Sheriff's Office has long-standing, excellent working relationships with local police, fire and EMS services within the county.
Through cutting-edge technology, our patrol deputies can access a variety of records (including arrest warrant information, arrest records, driving records, vehicle registration information, stolen property files, predatory offender information, etc.) from within their squad cars. State of the art computer systems are utilized, which allows our patrol deputies to have instant access to the information, which provides efficiency and helps keep them safe. The Renville County Sheriff's Office is home to a records software package that is shared with all of the police departments within the county.
Our Patrol Division strives to provide efficient and courteous law enforcement services to everyone living in and traveling through Renville County. Our patrol deputies are oftentimes the "face" of the Sheriff's Office and have a strong community-oriented policing philosophy.
